Happy Mother

Kyle and I paid tribute to our great mothers by having them over to eat at our house. Linda came for lunch on Saturday and we had all the Hunsaker clan over for Sunday dinner. With all that hosting, Mother's Day was not particularly restful for me, but my big reward came Sunday evening as we were putting Jason to bed. We finished reading stories and Kyle told Jason to "Give mommy a hug and say 'Happy Mother's Day'". I was sitting on the floor across the room and Jason came running at me like a linebacker and tackled me with a hug while saying "Happy Mother." Awwww. Yes Jason, I am a happy mother.

Thanks to my sweetie for doing most of the cooking. It was delicious! And thanks for my new hymn book. I also loved our family hike on Saturday; it was a perfect family outing. And Jason wore his hat the whole time!

Where Are the Eggs?

After a record-breaking three Easter Egg hunts (at the church, Robbins, and Hunsakers), Jason is now asking "Where are the Eggs?" whenever we go to those places. He keeps walking around by bushes, hoping he'll find another egg. Maybe he will...

The Easter bucket we brought to the ward party was small, but he loved it and didn't seem to notice that all the other kids had much larger baskets. We helped him out by putting the overflowing eggs into our coat pockets. Jason still has room for improvement next year in his egg-hunting skills. At our first egg hunt he had fun filling up his bucket and then dumping the eggs back on the ground. We showed him what was inside to entice him to keep the eggs in his bucket, but then he just wanted to eat the candy in that one egg. He didn't grasp the concept of waiting and collecting now so you can enjoy more later.


Kyle and I were not the big winners at the Hunsaker egg hunt, but the nice thing about that hunt is that everyone is a winner, just not all big winners. Jason was the ultimate candy-monster and pilfered all his cousin's baskets.

Royal Reminiscences

I met Amanda on my London Study abroad, and we've remained close friends ever since. We decided to have a low-key party in honor of Prince William's and Kate's Royal Wedding. We watched the evening updates of the whole affair while we devoured British deserts: Hob Nobs (my personal favorite) and Pound Cake topped with British Custard. Delicious. We also enjoyed reminiscing over scrapbooks of our study abroad. I can't wait to go back to England with Kyle some day.

Getting Crafty

I've had fun getting crafty with my new sewing machine (thanks again, Mom!). I've been making baby bibs like crazy, trying to catch up on giving baby gifts, plus creating a stockpile for future gifts.

I also made this cute chick banner. I invited Linda over and we each made one.


We'll see how long this crafty phase of life lasts. My next projects will include: a happy birthday banner, more bibs, and a family home evening story board made out of flannel complete with flannel pictures to go with it.

Open Sesame

I find it worthy to note that Jason figured out how to open doors at home. We haven't had any problems with that yet since he still sleeps in a crib... Life just gets more and more interesting.

What Would You Do with an Extra $50?

My parents are cleaning out their cupboards in preparation for a kitchen remodel. While cleaning out they found a white envelope that obviously had some cash inside with "For Kate" written on the outside in my mom's handwriting. I opened it up today and found a lovely $50 in cash. My mom didn't include a note, so we don't know why she was giving it to me or how long it had been in hiding, but it is mine :).

So I am curious to know, what would you do with an extra $50? I am thinking of spending mine on some new shorts for summer....
